Continuation of Documentation for Temporary Protected Status Beneficiaries for 6 Countries Extended Through Dec 2022

A UCLA Blue swatch

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has automatically extended the employment authorization expiration date through December 31, 2022 for the following countries:

  • El Salvador
  • Haiti
  • Honduras
  • Nepal
  • Nicaragua
  • Sudan

If you are reviewing an employment authorization card from one of the countries listed above, see detailed requirements on the USCIS's website:

  • Select the country that is identified on the current EAD from the list on the left side of the webpage.
  • When the country's information appears, scroll down and click the Automatic Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Extension header.
    • Detailed information is provided in this section –  some auto extensions require the temporary protected status (TPS) holder to pay renewal fees in order to receive the new EAD card and may require the receipt of payment to support the auto extension.

What is an automatic EAD extension?

Sometimes DHS must issue a blanket automatic extension of the expiring EADs for TPS beneficiaries of a specific country in order to allow time for EADs with new validity dates to be issued. If a country’s EADs have been automatically extended, it will be indicated on the country-specific pages listed on the Temporary Protected Status page of USCIS's website.
